Personal Relationships – the Key to Proper Coding and Maximized Reimbursements
HIS' 40+ certified coders assist both hospital- and office-based physicians to submit proper coding and documentation to payers, resulting in quick, maximized reimbursement. To accomplish these positive results, each HIS coder establishes a one-to-one relationship with each physician through frequent communications, whether they’re e-mails, telephone calls or face-to-face meetings.
Why Many Physician Practices Outsource Coding to HIS
- Our certified coders review a physician’s medical record documentation, and hospital reports and interpretations if necessary, before deciding on the CPT (current procedural terminology) codes that best represent the services provided to a patient. This is extremely important because payers reimburse physicians according to these codes and sometimes request the documentation. HIS helps physicians to document everything they do – to avoid lost revenue.
- Our certified coders help physicians meet timely filing limits. Many private payers will recognize claims only up to 60 days after the date of service. Medicare only allows 120 days to dispute a claim denial.
- Our certified coders stay current with codes and procedures. For example, on the horizon is a change from the IDC-9 coding system to IDC-10 on Oct. 1, 2011. This will introduce a new way of diagnosis coding, with 10 to 20 times as many codes as are used now. Insurance companies will deny claims that do not comply with the new coding system.
The HIS Coding and Education Program
Translating the knowledge of certified HIS coders to your unique needsHIS' Coding and Education Program has two primary goals: to achieve coding compliance and to code at optimal levels. HIS delivers the education in the most suitable format for your practice – in person or webinar, a session with one or a few key people or the entire practice. After the initial training, supplemental information is provided through individualized responses to specific e-mail or telephone inquiries, periodically e-mailed coding tips, and newsletters.
